TIS Documents

Document Information

The majority of these documents relate to the S52 M Roadster / M Coupe given their inherent similarities.  But given the commonality of these models with the Z3 and other BMW models (E36, E30), a lot of the documents are not exclusive to the Roadster or Coupe.

There are several types of documents within the TIS system which you will encounter while reviewing or researching this page:

  • AZD = Tightening Torques
  • RA = Repair Information
  • SI = Service Information Bulletin
  • SWZ = Special Tool
  • TD  = Technical Data

On occasion, you will find references to other documents within the one your reviewing.  In the actual TIS system, these references will link you to the document in question.  Since I have no way to pull out all these links and recreate them within these posted PDF's, you've got to use your brain a little.  I'll explain...  As an example, you may see an outlined block of text on a page that contains information referring to a particular section, or an actual document number.  If the text is a number like "11 13 000"  then it's an actual document and would be in section 11 (engine), sub section 13 (oil sump), etc.  If box just contains text, then try to decipher what section the information will be contained based on which area the document your reviewing originated.

When it comes to a Technical Data reference in a document, or to tightening something , this will be an "AZD" document (see above).  Most likely the AZD document is going to in the same section, or maybe the "parent" section of the part of the car in which you're working.  For example, you might be changing the transmission fluid, which is covered in section 00 Maintenance and General Data, but the AZD information is in section 23 Manual Transmission.

What you will usually see is something like "refer to Technical Data 23 00 4AZ".  This means the information is contained in document "AZD 23 00" section 4AZ.  When ever I've run across any technical references I've done my best to make sure to include the technical document in it's appropriate location.  More often than not, if the box simply states "refer to technical data", it's going to be a TD document in the same section.

On occasion though, you may find references to technical or torque data in these link boxes that is not contained in the same section.  Based on how the text is worded in the section you're reading, you can usually figure out where to look.  An example would be, an RA document about removing a wheel and finding lubricant on the hub.  The RA document refers you to a brake removal document to check for leaking fluid, but does not indicate which one.  Go look in the brake section and you'll find the document you need.

Sections denoted with an & are considered complete in as much as TIS has repair documents listed for the M Roadster / Coupe.  When going through the TIS information for these completed section, I've included done my best to include any referenced AZD or TD documents.  Later on I will be going through and ensuring none were missed and adding them as necessary.
